The Next Generation Science Standards

The Next Generation Science Standards are now available.  Twenty-six states and their broad-based teams worked together with a 41-member writing team and partners throughout the country to develop the standards.

  • NGSS Front Matter [1]
  • NGSS Structure [2]
  • Appendices to the Second Draft:
    1. Conceptual Shifts [3]
    2. Responses to Public Drafts [4]
    3. College and Career Readiness (Coming Soon)
    4. All Standards, All Students [5]
    5. Disciplinary Core Idea Progressions [6]
    6. Science and Engineering Practices [7]
    7. Crosscutting Concepts [8]
    8. Nature of Science [9]
    9. Engineering Design in the NGSS [10]
    10. Science, Technology, Society, and the Environment [11]
    11. Model Course Mapping in Middle and High School (Coming Soon)

There are three ways to view the standards:

Arranged by Disciplinary Core Idea (DCI) [16]

Arranged by Topics [17]

Search individual performance expectations [18]

The NGSS are composed of the three dimensions [19] from the NRC Framework [20]. Click on the links to the left and see the videos below to learn more about the standards.
