Achieve today released two documents examining some lessons learned from the California K-8 Early Implementation Initiative. The initiative began in August 2014 and was developed by the K-12 Alliance at WestEd, with close collaborative input on its design and objectives from the State Board of Education, the California Department of Education, and Achieve.
Achieve released the NGSS District Implementation Indicators, a document outlining important indicators of successful NGSS implementation at the district level and highlighting examples of measurable action steps that districts can take to clearly define and achieve desired implementation goals.
The Example Bundles (formerly known as the Model Content Frameworks for Science) demonstrate various ways that curriculum developers can bundle the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) within a school year. "Bundling" is an important strategy for implementing the standards because it helps students grasp connections between concepts and brings coherence to classroom instruction.
