The Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products (EQuIP) Rubric for Lessons & Units: Science was released today. The Rubric provides criteria by which to measure the alignment and overall quality of lessons and units with respect to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). 

On Feb. 18-19, the NGSS Network held the first NGSS Annual Leadership Meeting for State Teams and National Partners in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 140 education, policy and business leaders gathered to discuss promising practices and develop plans for implementation of the NGSS in their states. 

We sat down with Heidi Schweingruber, the deputy director of the Board on Science Education at the National Research Council (NRC), to discuss the role of the NRC’s fidelity review of the NGSS and the process involved.

Nevada has officially adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). With yesterday’s unanimous vote, the state board of education made Nevada the tenth NGSS adopter.

In October 2013, Achieve convened educators, administrators and science education experts from six states to help continue the development of the EQuIP Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Rubric.

Educators from the R.I. Department of Education recently completed a “road show” on what next-generation science standards will look like in the classroom when they are implemented over the next three years.

A group of 18 exerienced science, math and engineering teachers and administrators developed model tasks for K-12 classrooms. The innovation: these tasks integrate the Next Generations Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSS-M). 

After months of public outreach, on Sept. 19 Delaware became the seventh state to adopt the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with a unanimous 6-0 vote from the State Board of Education. The NGSS were developed by Delaware and 25 other lead state partners in a process managed by Achieve.

Since the development and release of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), leaders in science, K–12 education, higher education, business, technology, and research have voiced their support for the NGSS as a high-quality set of K–12 science standards that will better prepare students for college and careers
